Bred to track and bay lions, the Ridgeback is athletic and strong-willed: it needs an hour of real exercise, early socialisation and confident, consistent training, or that independence becomes stubbornness. The short coat is effortless. Aloof with strangers but rarely aggressive, it bonds deeply to its family and is happiest with an experienced owner who respects its intelligence.
