A calm, devoted Swiss farm dog that’s wonderful with children and content with moderate exercise — a couple of good walks and a chance to potter outdoors. The thick tricolour coat sheds a great deal and needs brushing several times a week. The hard truth with Berners is lifespan: they are sadly short-lived and carry a high cancer risk, so buy only from health-testing breeders and budget for serious vet care. Keep growing puppies lean and limit hard exercise until the joints mature.
