Leonbergers are big, good-natured working dogs — wonderful with children, sociable and surprisingly trainable for their size, with a love of swimming and water rescue. They need moderate daily exercise, plenty of grooming for that profuse double coat (it sheds heavily), and careful joint protection while young. Like all giants they’re costly and short-lived. A magnificent companion for a family with space and time.
