Standard Schnauzers are smart, versatile working dogs — affectionate and fun at home, alert and protective on watch, and quick to learn (and to outwit a lazy owner). They need daily exercise and mental work, plus regular hand-stripping or clipping of the low-shedding, bearded coat. Good with their own family and tolerant of considerate kids, they reward an active owner who’ll give that busy brain direction.
