Their extraordinary sense of smell has done so many wonders. With their power of smell, they can even identify anything going inside the human body. Be it regular sickness or cancer; they can sense it even before doctors find out. They do this all just to ensure their owners are safe and healthy because that is the core purpose of their lives once they are attached to their companions.
This dog showed her love for her owner amazingly. She helped her regain her health just at the right time by following the owner all around obsessively.
Ricky and Alhanna Butler owned an American Akita, Keola, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. She was always considered a part of the family. Keola was recently very excited and glad to see the owner pregnant as this was going to make the family bigger. She used to roam around her owner all day and take good care of her, but there was also anxiety in her about something being wrong.
Alhanna started to get pain in the lower back suddenly. She discussed with her doctor, but both of them considered it as side effects of progressed pregnancy. She returned home convinced, but Keola was still skeptic about it.
Keola could always smell something wrong by just being around the owner’s body and started to act really weird just to get some attention from Alhanna about it. On the other hand, Alhanna was always confused about it, as she told mercury press:
“When the doctors sent me home and said there was nothing seriously wrong, she just sat staring at me so intently that it really scared me. I posted a picture of her doing this on Facebook and make the joke about the film Hatchi where the dog also does this and suddenly my friends all started saying I should take it seriously.”
“No one really understood how ill I was – but Keola did. She would nudge me and cry and I could never figure out why she had suddenly started doing this. Ricky said she was distraught whenever I went to work, when she had never minded before.”
She went back to the hospital because of the ever-increasing pain. After the extensive care, what doctors found out was extremely shocking. The expecting mother was just a few moments away from death.
Alhanna had pain in her back because of a double kidney infection, and it was very rare which made it worse. Luckily, she didn’t ignore her dog’s sign and reached the hospital on time which saved her life.
“Because it was untreated for so long, it was one of the worst cases they had ever seen. On top of that I had an antibiotic resistant bug that had only ever affected one other person in the U.K. It was killing me and the doctors told me that if I had left it any longer I would have died and more than likely my son also.”
All thanks to Keola’s care and loyalty to her owner, he not only saved Alhanna’s life but that also saved the newly born baby on time.
The newly born was named as Lincoln and Keola is already his best friend now.
